Woman reading a book to group of refugee children

Every child deserves a book

The Books Away From Home Foundation provides books to refugee children, in their native language. Books Away From Home is a volunteer-run organization and entirely non-profit. We strive to keep our costs to a minimum, while not stinting on quality or accessibility. In order to ensure that our books remain affordable to schools, hospitals, and community centers, and free* to refugee families and shelters, we need your help.

With your support, we can…

  • expand our newest project, Sunbird, for refugee children from Iran and Afghanistan

  • create essential new book projects for refugee children from Syria, Eritrea, Myanmar, Sudan and more

  • implement "phase 2" of our project, Books for the Youngest Ukrainian Refugees

  • develop educational material to help refugee children and their classmates learn more about each other.

Please donate what you can. It is truly appreciated. Thank you! ❤️

*Refugee families that apply individually will always receive free books. Refugee shelters are also eligible for free books, unless there is a second (funded) partner involved, such as the Municipal Health Service (GGD) in the Netherlands. In such cases we ask for the cost price, as described above.
